Rear Right ABS Teeth Missing - Need new Drive Shaft?
Hi Guys,
Thanks again for all of the help so far!
The car is looking good, I just have one last issue to work through. My ABS kicks in at really low speeds and my mechanic found that a couple of ABS teeth on the rear right a worn/gone.
He said that we can't just buy the teeth and that the whole shaft with teeth on there will need to be replaced. I am in Australia and this part is hard to find on a 2007 model. We've been quoted $1,200 AUD for a new one from Japan (about $800-900 USD, don't forget shipping is further for Australia).
I guess I have three questions;
1. is it true that I need to replace the whole shaft;
2. Being a 2007 can I use an AP1 part?
3. Is the price about right and are there other places to source the part cheaper? There are heaps on ebay for around $200 plus $100 in postage (AUD), but I am not sure if it the right thing: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CV-Axle-S...kAAOSwpzdWscOj
Thanks guys!
Cheers

You don't have to replace the entire driveshaft. You only have to replace the outboard joint. It's easier for your mechanic to replace the entire driveshaft and it's likely he doesn't want to deal with the hassle.
The outboard joint is the same on all years. So is the entire drive shaft. You might have better luck replacing just the outboard joint since entire driveshafts are often replaced due to damage elsewhere.

Thanks slalom44, I appreciate the reply.
There doesn't seem to be too many of the out board joints for sale, but hypothetically if I had to buy the whole shaft is this it? : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CV-Axle-S...cOj&rmvSB=true
Thanks again!
