Default Redline Blues and Worries

I accidentally downshifted into 2nd instead of 4th but didnt give it gas while downshifting. I saw the rpm was ok when it happened (around 4 or 5k but the engine sounded really loud) then I gave it gas and the rpm shot up instantaneously into redline and then the gas cutoff and then I let off the gas and put in the clutch. I thought I was in fourth dammit and didn't realize that I was in 2nd until after the redline!
So basically I downshifted into second, the rpm looked fine or hesitated for a split second until I gave it gas then it shot up like that. Did I damage my engine or valves?
I was cruising at about 65-70 when I downshifted.

Not likely any damage, 65 in second is right around engine cutoff, 70 is a tad high, but even if you were doing 70 you probably dropped the extra 5 or 6 when you let the clutch out...

It seems to be fine right now. I gunned it a couple of times last night and it sounds fine. I wonder if it did in fact bend some of the valves or damage the engine.

dont worry i know someone who downshifted from the top of 4th (9000 rpm) to 3rd over reved for about 4/10s-6/10s of a second and no bent valves, he was scared as hell for a little bit cause of a ticking sound but then he found out it was just #2's coil arching to the plug

Even though your engine is ok this time I'd be very careful not to do it again. I've heard a couple of stories here where the engine was toast after one of these mishaps and was not replaced under warranty. So just be careful.
