Do you have a Honda dealer? It is a Honda part you should be able to get the OEM stuff at least.

Finally got around to doing this DIY. I immediately noticed the difference. The shifter is buttery smooth however I do still have a little notchiness (sp). I think Billman is correct.....there's more to curing this than simply regreasing the shifter and changing the MTF. I have resolved myself to the fact that its the design of the transmission that may contribute to the notchiness. It's mo betta anyhow.....and I drove around town for about an hour tonite as a result. I do think the shifter will get a bit smoother as soon as the grease has an opportunity to work its way onto all the surfaces. The heat from the tranny will most likely aid in spreading it out.

I did have one glitch in the process. The foam ring was mush. It was in place an doing its job...but when I went to pull it out....it just mashed between my fingers. No biggie....I fabricated one from some closed cell foam I had lying around. Worked like a charm.

Anyhow.....slight improvement.....45 minute job.....ditto putting shifter in reverse when re-assembling.

Thanks to the OP for this DIY!

Did this yesterday, but I'm getting the feeling I didn't use enough grease. I cleaned everything up pretty well before putting in the new (stinky!) grease, and my second and fourth gears are considerably less notchy, but I feel like a little bit more would make it perfect. I used about 1/3 of the container.

I just did this today, too. Ended up using about 2/3 of the container. Feels pretty good, but I'm pretty sure it'll feel better after I replace the tranny fluid next weekend.

I probably used too much. Once I started putting the grease on, I just couldn't stop.

I guess too much is better than not enough but damn are you guys putting it on with a trowel? I've regreased three different shifters (OEM, AxialFlow and Moddiction) twice and still have 1/3 of the jar left. That urea grease will not get thin and run out of the shifter so any excess is a waste. FWIW I used a small plastic spatula to grease all friction surfaces. When I swapped out the shifters there was no discernible loss of grease after 6,000-8,000 miles. Urea grease is real, real good shit.

Thanks for the info, mister x. It was my first time doing anything like that, so I really wasn't sure how much to use. Also, I applied it with my finger. I'll use less of the stuff next time, haha.
