Remote Oil Filter
I have limited area in my engine compartment and need to move the current mounting location since one of the fittings came loose and was a MF to get to. Will there be a negative effect on the engine if the filter is mounted sideways or upside down?

The stock OEM filter is mounted sideways, so it won't be any different if you mount a remote filter sideways. Some cars have filters mounted upside down but I personally wouldn't mount it that way - oil can drain out of the filter, increasing your "dry start" time. Even filters with the best silicon anti-drainback valves will gradually drain oil back over enough time. Besides - mounting it upside down makes a mess when changing your oil.
The best way to mount a remote filter is with the base plate facing up. The oil doesn't drain out when the car is not started for long periods and it's not messy when changing your filter. I have had my remote filter (along with a bypass filter) mounted that way for the last 7 years with no problems.
