Removal of Intermittent wiper relay
I have a 2000 s2000 in which the wipers in intermittent mode started to act funny. Funny in that when the wipers are in intermittent mode the wipers would sometimes wipe and sometime stay stuck in the middle of the sweep - more so being stuck in the middle of the sweep. The wiper in the other modes are fine - full sweep without any hesitation.
I managed to diagnois the problem to the relay - fuses are intact and the wiper motor is fine. However, I can't check the relay because the relay is located under the dash right behind the starter button. Thus, my predicament.
Has anyone attempted to take out this relay--- if so how did you do it? I would prefer not to take apart the dash just to get to the relay.
thanks in advance.

Can you get at it from behind/underneath the dash (stick your head by your pedals and look up)? There might be room to monkey it out. The manual says the wires are green/black, green, black, green/red, and blue/white.
The relay's in different spots on the 00-01 compared to the 02-03, so looking at mine wouldn't help.

its easy to take out the guage cluster to get to the relay. First behind the steering wheel is a 2 piece plastic cover. pry the top off with a screw driver in the grove between the top and bottom pieces. then the bottom part is screwed on with 3 phillips screws on the bottom. then after taking that off you'll see 2 bolts, and looking down the steering column you will see 2 more bolts behind a plastic air vent thing. take those 4 bolts off and the steering column will hang down. then there are 2 screws behind pop out tabs at the tachoemter. take those out and the whole dash guage cluster and a/c control and audio/stater units come out as 1 piece. pop it out a few inches and undo all the harnesses in the back. then you will have access to the wiper relay.
If it's just the starter button in the way you can pop it forward pretty easily.
That said, I doubt the problem is the relay. Quick test: If you turn on the wipers (non-intermittent) and then turn them off do they always return to normal position? I'm not sure what the circuitry is that checks the position of the wipers but I doubt it's in the relay. More likely the motor.

Thanks Squeezer for the info on taking apart the dash.
I took apart the dash last night and was able to get access to the relay. Just as a note after taking out the dash panel there is a control box behind the starter and audio control which needs to be taken out. There is a 10mm bolt that hold the control box which can only be access with an open box wrench. After taking out that control box the relay is accessable. However, if you have small enough hands I think you can just reach around and take off the relay.
I replaced the relay and the problem was solved - the intermittent wiper option is working as it should.

Hello,
I'm having the same issue.
can you please share if it is the 4 or 5 pin power relay? I asked two dealerships and they did't know.
4pin 39794-s04-014
5pin 39794-s10-003
thanks
