Default replacement top diy lessons

I replaced my MY00 top with the Robins Stayfast with the glass window.

The top looks much better than the original and glass is really nice. I never realized how cloudy the vinyl window was, even on it's cleanest day.

After a couple of weeks ( and little rain) I happened to look in the trunk. There was about 4" of water. I took out the trunk liner and rear tray and took the hose to the rain gutter area. The leaks were all on the driver side of the car.

I removed the metal pieces that hold the top and rain rail to the car and pulled the rain rail out where I could inspect it.

This is what I found:

The big hammer down rivets that are supplied with the top don't hold 100% of the time. 2 were broken in the same place the leaks were.

I removed all the rivets (one at a time and replaced then with 1/8" dia rivets with a 1/8" ID washer on each side of the rain rail). The rivet length was 5/8". I used aluminum rivets because they are easier to work with.

The second thing that I noticed was that the rain rail in the area it was leaking was not tucked in well under the lip around that black moulding piece that surrounds the rear of the cockpit where the top goes.

Also, I forgot to check my gutter downspouts. One of them was pretty full of leaves and crap.

All is well now. I think the second thing caused the majority of the leaks, but the rivets could cause minor leaking.

ADD version
1. go buy rain rail rivets that look like the originals with some washers
2. Tuck the rain rail
3. clean gutters
