Default resetting ecu+driving hard=better performance?

i have head this a couple of times and wanted to get the facts.... if you unhook your ecu and let it sit for about 1/2 hour then hook it back up and drive it hard, the ecu will learn you driving habits and be a better performer over all.....

this is what i was told/read.... any truth to it? i dyno at 210 with CAI and cat back exhaust so i thinki have a little above normal power and i'm wondering if my ecu will benifit as a result of this.... normally i drive like a freakin mary.... i only open it up once in a while...so i'm thinking i can get a little more "go" if this ecu thing is correct.

It takes a number of drive cycles for the ecu to adapt/learn the proper air/fuel mixture.

I would think resetting the ecu would only set you back in terms of performance as your ecu should have already learned the proper air/fuel mixture.

Many owners have reported improved dyno results immediately after resetting their ECU. The hypothesis is that the default maps give more power compared to the learned maps that provide a bit more efficiency and lower emissions.

so this is only temporary???? can the learned maps be "erased" and re taught?

I thought WOT operation (like used on a dyno run) always used default fuel maps, that only part-throttle driving used modified fuel maps that the ECM adjusts over time (through closed-loop operation)?

Now I do think you might see a HP gain on the dyno if you reset the ECM, due to timing changes. I'm not sure if the timing maps are "constant" at WOT or if they are learned based on feedback from the knock sensor. So if the ECM is typical and defaults to the most agressive timing curve when it's reset, the ECM might provide more advanced timing for the first few minutes, till it sees engine knock and turns it back down again.

Overall, I don't think any combination of reset/driving will result in long-term improvements. The ECM is too damn smart.
