Default Retainer inspection

I inspected and took photos of my retainers after a valve adjustment. After reading posts about how to inspect retainers and evaluating mine, I am leaning towards a conclusion that my retainers look "sunk" so possible that I have cracked retainers, especially when I compared to Soviet's photo on this thread (post #4) @ https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/114...r-replacement/

The most difference I noticed was that my cotters look sunk where and Soviet's cotters look flushed with the retainers. Could it be a design change between ap1 and ap2 retainers? I am not sure if Soviet's photo was from ap1 or ap2.

I am hoping I am wrong. Below is a photo of my exhaust retainer for cylinder #1 @ TDC (I believe). Rest of the retainers look very similar so I chose a clear picture to post. https://www.instagram.com/p/BC05RGzEIQ7/

MY08 with 86k miles. How does it look?

Thank you for your time.

Ok....I am answering my own question now. I searched more and found this thread differentiating f20c and f22c retainers.

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/442...ring-retainer/

Soviet's photo looks like a f20c retainer.

I still need someone to chime in to evaluate the condition of my retainer... thanks.

Your Ap2 retainers are fine, guaranteed.

Broken retainers are a non-issue 04-09.

I learned from the research that the design improved but did not know that it was a non-issue for ap2s.

Thank you for your input.

Those pictures were indeed of my F20C retainers. Not a single one of mine was cracked but I upgraded anyway. As Billman said you should be good.

Thanks for your reply. Now I know that oem retainers for f20c and f22c look different.

They can crack, but you'll get valve float before that even becomes an issue. In other words you're more likely to bend a valve than crack a retainer.
