Reusing a crank from a motor that got hot.
Question is:
I bought a used motor (with 30k miles on it) that apparently had the radiator punctured and was ran with water leaking until detonation occurred and a piece of the head above cylinder #3 let go. When I got the motor I drained the oil out and a full 5 quarts came out, although it smelled like it got hot.
With all of that in mind, does it seem unreasonable to think that assuming the crank is not out of round etc. I can use it again? What about the Rods? I have heard of crystallization occurring and making a crank brittle, but I guess I'm not sure at what temp that would happen, and if that would really effect a forged steel crank.

Never heard of crystalization, but i have heard of them loosing there temper from a really bad spun rod. Unless it looks like the crank changed color from heat or if a rod scoured up the journals, then im sure you can use it again.
