Default Rev limiter operation?

How does our rev limiter work? Does it shut off the fuel supply, shut off ignition, some other method, all of the above? Thank for any info.

Actually, I forget which it does: it doesn't really matter.

If the engine is driving the car, cutting either will limit the revs.

If the rear wheels are driving the engine to xx,xxx rpm, it doesn't matter if you cut off ignition, fuel and everything else. The rear wheels are driving the engine; the engine has to rev to whatever rpm the rear wheels demand.

If the driver $%^&ed up, he/she is going to buy a new engine.

Question...tonight when I was driving home from the gf's house I decided to get on it a little out by my house. When I shifted into second, My rear end lost traction and I hit rev-limiter about 3 times.... It scared the shit out of me! But everything after that was fine and nothing sounded any different. So my question is, am I fine?? I would know right away if I messed anything up, right?

you're fine as long as you hit the limiter...problems lie when you rev beyond that point (ie mis-shift) and the rpms shoot beyond the limiter. that's when you'll find a piston in your oil pan...ouch...

ive hit my limiter about 3-4 times. so far, no problems. not even oil consumption. but dont make a habit of hittin the rev limiter.

but then again, you do have a SC and im not sure what effects the SC will have...
