Default Revving high when cold

I don't know if this is normal or not. But when I start my car on cold mornings it idles at 2k. After a few minutes of warming up it drops under 1 k and stays there. 2 k just seems a bit high to me. Is this normal?

Thanks

even on warm mornings (70-80 degrees) my car will idle at 2K initially. after a few blocks it'll drop down to 1K.

this is normal.

your car (and most modern cars for that matter) will run at a higher RPM when you first start up. i believe it is normally died to coolant temperature so when the coolant temp rises the revs begin to drop.

the point of this is to warm up the engine.

Yup, normal. The S2000 does have a higher cold idle than most cars, but it also has a higher warm idle than most cars (~2000 RPM versus ~1000 RPM). My Accord is like 1000 RPM versus 700 when warm. The S2000's cold idle is so high you can take off without using the throttle!

It's normal. I also notice the S comes up to temp quickly.

Let's hope you warm it up by driving conservatively.
NOT by idling

The high idle is normal.
One more reason to go 0W oils if the temps drop a bit.
That said: you can use 0W-30's year round.
As I have.
