Default ROUGH SHIFTING

I noticed that getting into first and reverse, there is a lot of resistance. I try to push it inot one of those gears and it feels like there is something blocking the entry so i let it bakc into neutral and for first gear, i will put it in second and then into first. For reverse, I put it in third and then reverse.. does anyone else find this happening? I believe it usually occurs during the first 5 minutes after startup, after that I don't think I really ave a problem. Is that just the syncros just not lined up?

I don't see what the problem is. This is pretty much normal procedure for a smooth, unincumbered shift into 1st or reverse after starting the car. The tranny spins while you are idling in neutral. When the drivetrain is cold, it takes just a few seconds longer to stop the spinning. Putting it into a higher forward gear first will stop the spinning without drama. Then getting into 1st or reverse is easy. It's a habit that most experienced manual drivers have been doing most of their lives. Some people just haven't figured this out yet.
Of course, there's always exceptions to the rule. Those being if your clutch fluid is old or your clutch is out of adjustment. However, the fact that you just stated going into another forward gear first, makes it easy, tells me there is nothing wrong with your car.

Thanks Xviper..
I've been doing this for years, just never knew why I did it. I think the resistance just seems a little more pronounced in my S. I didn't think there was anything wrong, but my brother brought it up after borrowing it and i guess it actually made me think about it.
