running costs
are s2000s very expensive to run? excuse my dumbass quesions but i only recently got into s2000s. im 16 so i gotta learn somewhere..where beter than a site full of s2000 freaks. my knowledge is fastly gettin bigger tho! so how expensive r they to run? i hear u all talkin about how u have to put like $15 000 in them to make em faster n all this. wat kinda mpg to they put out?
I think that if you are putting 15k into the car to make them faster that the fuel efficiency is not your prime concern. The car is only a LEV if you keep it under VTEC most of the time. Otherwise you get maybe 15mpg city.
60K+ on my dial. Costs............oil changes, tranny oil changes, diff oil changes,............THATS ABOUT IT! Clutch got replaced under a TSB after 32K. Other stuff was all warrantee work(cost minimal)
I gotta say its a very low maintenance! Just change the fluids!
Making them faster..........well that is a very expensive proposition!

You can't consider mods as "running costs". These are owner induced choices and don't count in your sort of calculation.
I don't know what kind of financial backing you've got but if you have found a way to own one of these cars, then you should also be able to find a way to maintain it. However, we can all find ways to economize our routine expenditures. At your age, you should begin to learn about basic car mechanics and maintenance and do most of the stuff on this car yourself. Make sure you keep a log book with dates and type of work done AND keep ALL receipts for "consumables" like oil, filters, other fluids. Due to the fact that young people are not always taken seriously by dealers when it comes time to make warranty claims and such, it wouldn't be a bad idea, if you do your own work, to have a "responsible adult" sign your log book for each entry.
You'll need to buy oil and filter every 3750 miles. Tranny oil and diff oil maybe every year or two. Brake fluid, too. W. washer fluid, cleaning and waxing products. Other greases and lubricants. Of course, you'll need to start to collect basic tools to do all this work.
If you are not going to do your own work, then call up the service guy at your local dealer and get him to outline the costs for maintenance for every interval for the time you plan to have the car.
Fuel economy figures are not a secret and are published in all the magazines and many web sites. These are only guidelines and do not apply to each individual as your driving style and habits will determine what your mileage will be. If you drive the crap out of it all the time, you'll be fueling up frequently, along with having to buy tires and making repairs to stuff, assuming you don't crash it into something first. (Sorry, but 16 years old tend to do this more than the national average, "statistically" speaking, of course).
