If you have indeed over revved, I would definitely pull the valve cover and inspect your retainers. As Billman said, a cracked retainer won't make any noise at all... until it fails and the valve drops into the cylinder. Then you have a lot more than cracked retainers to worry about...

Thanks guys I pulled the vc and no sign of broken retainers. Maybe it's just one of the heatsheilds rattling. I'm gonna do a compression test later just to be safe

LMAs? There was a guy who had a noise who couldnt figure out and it turned out to be the LMAs. Im about to replace them on mine aswell because I could swear he fixed the same noise I was having by replacing those. It seems to be very unheard of though to replace them but apparently it solved his issue

Or it was just a coincidence in that something he removed in the process (battery heat shield, etc) was making the noise and when reinstalled it was secure and not rattling anymore. I personally have NEVER seen or heard of any LMA problems with the S2000.

Agree....unless it was put together wrong (noise would be immediate after improper rebuild), a noise that develops out of nowhere is not the LMAs.

I definitely agree with that. It doesn't sound like he had his head apart so that can pretty much be eliminated.

Also a top visual inspection of retainers is not enough to notice if they are cracked. You can look up Billmans posts on this subject. The crack on the bottom and unless you remove them and inspect them from the bottom its very hard to tell. The sunken valve stems is a great if the retainer is cracked quite badly, but smaller cracks will show no signs from above.
