S2000 Power steering sensor issues FIXED.
I realize this is old, but this was an excellent write-up. Nice formatting, pointy arrows to items of interest, good closeup AND overview pictures. Only critique would be to include the torque values for the security bolts.
I also realize the comments about WD40 or other solvent is old but I would have to side with the OP on this ; you probably don't want to spray a solvent in there. WD40 and other solvents can melt plastic. Furthermore, the solvent can bleed into the bearing and break down any grease in there and/or carry dirt/grit into the bearing thereby hastening the death of the bearing. Others may have done it already with no issues but the OPs method is better and doesn't cost much more, other than time.

Bringing back the dead...but what do you mean the torque sensor isn't for sale anymore by Honda? Its like $400 but its available..

Anyone know whether the ap1 looks the same? Same fix possible?
Edit: Sort of answered my own question with a search. Various threads. But this one is on point: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...ement-1187266/
Not a lot of clarity but there are three part numbers referenced in the linked thread and some say the ap2 part number works fine for ap1 cars.

This may help I'm also looking. I got this from HONDA PARTS NETWORK. At this point I'm looking at suppliers in Japan (new) or junk yards.
Thank you for providing your VIN, that helps ensure part accuracy on our catalog.
Unfortunately, the part you ordered (53101-S2A-S01) will NOT FIT.
That part is for '08/'09 AP2 CRs.
The part number you need is DISCONTINUED (53101-S2A-A02). It's a common part that goes out on AP1s, a known issue. This part is NOT AVAILABLE for me to order.
If you are still interested in ordering other parts for your S2000, you will also need:
53323-SW5-003 (Steering Joint B)
90135-SZT-000 (Steering Joint Yoke Bolt) order a quantity of 2.
90511-671-003 (Toothed Lock washer) order a quantity of 2.
Please let me know if I may cancel your current order, payment will not be collected.
I hope this helps,

My prediction: Every single S2k will have this issue.
My power steering was lumpy, inconsistent, only power steered in one direction, and started happening on cold/cool starts. Also had a death shake if you gave it a quick flick.
What I found was dried up grease and a bit of sand/dirt in the sensor was the culprit. This means that every single S2K will see this issue at some point and you will have to fix it since honda no longer sells this part. If you have already replaced the sensor, KEEP the old one. Someone will want it. From what I've seen on mine, I'm guessing all can be repaired. People in dry and dusty environments will likely see this issue first.
I took mine out, cleaned the dirt from under the plastic ring and used high temp urea grease and its good as new. I'm still not sure if the urea grease was the best/right call, but it's what I had on hand. I felt it was a good choice. Original grease was green, and since it is used on the shifter(plastic), it should be safe to use on plastic parts.
DO NOT USE WD40 or any other penetrating lube as others have suggested. That is a very poor fix that works, but will do more damage in the long term. You must take it apart and CLEAN it. The sensor is designed to operate with minimal grease and NO oil.

After having the torque sensor open for cleaning / rebuild, I'm also inclined to side w/ the OP -- injecting WD-40 or other cleaner / solvent in there will fix the immediate issue, but is also likely to move the debris / dirt around and leave you vulnerable to potential future issues. I'm keeping my S for the long haul, so I'd be living with any future issues I create.
i am almost certain this is what is causing my Steering Concern as well. Mine will have stiff steering, but only for the initial movement then it works fine. Its only annoying when first trying to back out of a parking space.
My car has been parked for almost 6+ years, so its worth a shot! I'll post up pics if it successfully fixes my concern.
