Default S2000 Rattle Noise

Hi all,

My S2K has been making a sound for a couple of months and I never thought much of it until now. I originally thought it was the TCT but don't really think its that anymore. It sounds similar to this video:

Has anybody else figured out what this is? I've been looking through youtube comments on multiple videos and it doesn't seem like anybody has come up with a solution.

Thanks in advance!

Might also help to know that in the couple of months I've owned it, i've autocrossed it quite a few times (10 or so times in the past 6 months).

If it helps, my AP1 has sounded like that since I bought it at around 30K (now at 35K) in mileage. From the TCT videos I have seen, it isn’t that. I wouldn’t mind knowing myself.

Take another video. 5 feet away from the front of the car, hood closed. It is the only way to make individual noises stand out.

I think it’s one of the pulley bearings going out. LHT did a video on this, putting a screwdriver to the tensioner and/or idler pulley, then putting your ear on the handle of the screwdriver and spinning the pulley will make the sound.

I'd suggest just spending the $10 on a mechanic's stethoscope. The screwdriver method works but it's way easier to listen while staring at the part. I used to use the screwdriver method but it would sometimes shift as I'd put my ear to it which was dangerous near the pulleys. I can stare at the pulley while touching it with the stethoscope. It also allows me to fit it places where the screwdriver and my ear won't fit.

Remove the serpentine belt (takes 2 minutes) and listen. If the noise is gone start checking the individual pulleys. Bearing failures there aren't common but not rare either. The bearings themselves are fairly inexpensive v. the complete pulley.
