S2000 stock injectors 'clinking'?
Hello again all. I try not to start more than 1 post per week but I've searched this topic for a couple days and can't find any relevant information.
I took a mechanic's stethoscope to each of my stock injectors on Friday and could clearly hear 'clinking'. Not clicking, CLINKing. A metallic tapping noise. I'm not sure but I think injector #4 (firewall hugger) is a bit louder than the others. I put the scope to the case near where the intake manifold reached the case and can't really hear the clinking, just sounds like a good motor
I've heard that the stock injectors naturally tick. But is clinking normal? Also, my MPG has not been super. On a 1-10 scale, 1 being grandma shifting and 10 being a VTEC maniac, I'm about a 3-4 overall. My MPG is about 20-25. 20 being that I hit VTEC once a commute on a bad week, 25 MPG on 65-70°F weeks driving smooth, no VTEC.
I used to get 25-30 mpg on my AP1.
I don't think I should be worried too much. But what do you guys think?
Thanks!

How many miles on the engine? Does the oil on your dipstick smell like gas?
IMO, the injectors are a little noisy, but don't necessarily sound the same. You could try swapping #4 injector with another on to see if the noise follows.
Fuel economy varies significantly with the seasons. The winter fuel mix used this time of year always gives me poorer fuel economy. Your MPG isn't out of line.
I wouldn't jump to any conclusions on your injector. But if the noise bugs you and you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, go ahead and pick up a new injector.
