s2k died and now won't turn over
Ok guys. I was cruising down the freeway for a few hours. Cruise control, so no high revving. I finally get to my exit and as I am decelerating my car gives a nasty knocking sound so I immediately pull off where the car dies. I tried to start it again but now it won't even try to turn over. I had it towed to a shop and they charged me $1200 to not fix a thing and do what they thought it was ( starter; which I never had a problem with, and knock sensor; which I never had a CEL for) they checked all valves and everything looked good. Dropped the oil pan and everything in the bottom end looked good. There was just a slight bit of metal, but nothing out of the ordinary. The motor turned with a wrench for a little bit, then got to a point where it won't turn. Also, removed the vtec solenoid and it was clear of any metal at all. I keep the oil topped off and fresh and the motor has about 115k miles on it. It is an '01 AP1. All stock except for exhaust. I do not know if this could possibly be the timing chain kinked up or what. The previous owner may have never changed the TCT or the timing chain. Does anyone have any insight on what this may be?
do you know if the motor wont turn over by hand because something is hitting? sometimes people stop trying to turn the motor over by hand when it gets kind of hard in fear of causing more damage, but sometimes its just the compression. don't get me wrong im not saying to force it if its tight though. If the motor forsure is not turning over by hand than I would say you've narrowed down your problem to something mechanical. I would pull the valve cover and look down in the timing chain area. This is a long shot but I had a Volvo that wouldn't turn over because the cylinders were filed with coolant. doesn't hurt to pull the plugs and take a look. goodluck!
Thanks, I've pulled all spark plugs and removed the valve cover. I took a look into Where the chain is and it looked fine from the top but I haven't looked toward the bottom yet. I am really going that it is something that just got caught. I a little afraid to just force it over so I just want to check. better safe than sorry.
Didn't possibly overev it during a downshift? If it doesn't turn over by hand you've got big problems. Take the valve cover off and check your timing marks to make sure nothing has jumped. But if it work turn by hand chances are the motor it done, hate to say it.
No over revving done at all. I was maybe doing 40mph in 5th gear decelerating. The mechanics said everything on the top and bottom looked to be in great condition. They turned it a few by hand but now it won't turn by hand like it may be hitting something. I'm hoping it's something unordinary and I'm just a lucky guy.
