The LS1 is an expensive and very involved swap. If you're paying someone else to do it...with the price of the car, you're looking to spend $20k++++.

The F20C1 is 240hp. The LS1 is something like 370. The torque and power delivery is the big difference.

You'll want a R200 or other strong rear diff swap. So add another $2000-3000 to the bucket, including install.

A K24 is more feasible. But....meh.

If you actually want to drive the car sometime this century, buy a running S2000....or buy the one you're thinking of and swap in a used F20/22.

I think the car in the ad probably needs more work than you think. But I could be wrong.

What is your idea of "too expensive", and what are you looking to spend?

If you're expecting to buy a working, good condition, clean title, low mileage S2000 for the price of a civic...your expectations may be too high.

what what what? 20k? I can get an ls1 engine+trans for 2.2k. ECU for around 600, install kit for another 2k.

Are you able to install the LS1 yourself?

What about the cost of the diff, Clutch, Flywheel, driveshaft, and all the other parts?

9500 for the car. $4100 for the parts you listed = $13.6k. If you're not doing the wiring or fabrication or installation yourself....that brings you close to the 20k.

Where are you finding a good condition LS1 for $2200? Did prices drop on those?

^whoops. The parts you listed are actually $4800. So $14,300 including the car. Plus thd cost of all the other small things...and the cost of install.

Maybe you can parley your pair of non-working 2.0 engines into one, or build one good engine from the pair.

Matching numbers are nice to have when you sell the car. If the broken engine was original it may be worthwhile to repair it. If you're going to build a "track car" or otherwise bugger it or the car has other damage, etc., this may not be important so fix and fit the better engine. When I was contemplating building a Lotus Seven I was seeing complete running AP1 engines in the under $3000 range and AP2 for not much more.

I can do the installation myself, all I really need to pay for is the parts. Also I still might not do an ls1 swap, it was just an idea I might do.

I didnt read the whole post but just to put it in perspective this is what I did the past few months or so.
I bought a rear end damage s2000 with a perfect motor ( from a close friend) 3100
I bought a no motor mint shell s2000 ( all engine bay wiring was cut ) 3250

between the two I have a almost running S2000 (a few things left to button up ) for under 7k
if your paying more than that you can just get a high millage s2000 for that price and worry about the motor later. Right now I see plenty of s2000s with high mileage for sale under 10k some as low at 8500.

Dont fully trust any sellers word, because he just wants to make a sale.
