Default safe to drill in spare wheel area?

Hi Guys,

im looking at installing something, and looking to bolt it down in the area where the spare wheel is usually sitting.

If I drill in this area here, will it be ok, or is there no room free below the car?

Haven't been able to get under the car to have a look yet, so thought I'd ask here first!

Cheers

No other way to install this device, except drilling a hole in the body? Seems a rust risk. What is the device you are adding?

Thanks!

If it is questionable and you don't want to introduce a corrosion factor, JB Weld the mounting bracket to the metal instead. It will be plenty secure for a hose mount, whatever hoses you are installing.

Drilling in the forward section (where roll bars are mounted) is okay. Drilling near where the spare tire goes is not a good idea. That is where the fuel tank is. People that install amps in that area often (accidentally) drill into the top of the fuel tank.

You heard of this happening? I put a high-end audio system in my old Acura Legend. I mounted the amps, capacitors, chokes, cross-overs onto separate boards, cut to inner dimension of the trunk. Then, made wire mesh housings to fit over boards. I was able to remove all aftermarket stuff, when I sold the car. And sell the amps and accessories, easily. No damage to car.

Drill. No biggie. You could always seal it with silicone.

Good info. I ASSume the Acura Legend is exactly the same as an S2000 when it comes to the topic at hand. LOL

Do you people even read what you write before you hit the 'submit post' reply?
