Shell Helix Motor Oil?
Is it any good? I know the Ferrari guys like it, but then who know's. Just curious, my buddy with a Ferrari 328 was asking me about it. So I figured I'd ask the S2Ki oil geeks.
TIA,
TIA,
Nothing there that can't be found here, based on experiences and recommendations already posted by myself and many others.
Enzo Ferrari went way back with Shell, and it continues to this day. The Shell oil for the Enzo costs something like $70/quart - you don't honestly think it has $65 more value than any quality synoil do ya? It doesn't. Plus, Shell is foreign owned. Buy Domestic!

But we're all S2000 owners.
I know you're kidding. Just teasing
Actually, if you want a 10W-60 synthetic lube, go to a BMW dealership and ask them for 6 qts of the oil they recommend for the E46. It is relatively cheaper.
Make sure it is RR approved for your application.

I'll try it.

Yes, sort of like Honda and their MTF or 90W. They CAN'T make you use their oil if there is another competing product available that meets the same lubricity requirements.
Is the Helix even RR approved? If not, how does Shell expect Enzo owners to use it without a solid endorsement? I'll bet 99% of Enzo owners let their mechanic decide. Not exactly a machine you want to experiment with.

I actually know a guy with an Enzo, and he paid $700 for an oil change, because the engine alone was over $200k. He was worried about the warranty. but I thought it was bogus because they cannot force you to use their products unless they provide them free. Of course, they have their product standards, so it might be arguable. But it is 10w60, which is available in Castrol 'R' for less.
But it is academic anyway - it is not the right vis for our cars, and if people are so weird that they want Enzo-oil just for the bling, then my old recommendation must come to the surface, slippery as ever: Wild Boar mucous, nature's perfect lubricant, at $200/quart! Very hard to collect - you get holes in you. Owwch!
