Default shift boot replacement

I'm wanting to replace my stock shift boot with a leather one with red stitching, but I'm wondering how do I remove the dark chrome trim around the boot so I can get it off... theres like 6 clips on the underside, but I'm having a hard time removing it still... any ideas and suggestions?

there are 2 plastic little rivets in the center, they are holding it on. I used a dremel and just cut them off. When you put it back together it will feel a little loose but once you put the screws back in it will tighten up just fine.

Those caught me off guard too...

I broke mine. It was a pita to remove. Hope yours comes off without a problem.
