Picked up one of those spiffy little MODIS diagnostic tools today from the Snap-On truck. While it is an awesomely intuitive tool with full OBDII, volt/amp/ohm-meter, 8-channel scope, 5-gas analyzer, and an automatic can opener, it is the slowest piece of crap I've ever used. It isn't anywhere close to being fully updated, and the updates are ridiculously expensive as well! It covers most GMs, but imports (particularly the Europeans) aren't covered worth shit. At least Generic OBDII isn't so bad with this tool.
At $7200 off the truck, it is an investment. It probably would come in handy, especially the 8-channel(!) scope and the 5-gas tester, but it's just so awkward to use (stupid reverse scroll) and slow to load.
I guess this information is pretty useless to most of ya'll out there, but just an FYI I guess.
On a side not, I love the Snap-On brick and the Vantage. I just got one of Matco's PalmScans and it is amazing. And it only cost $300. Granted, it's strictly an OBDII scan tool but it's definitely one of the best out there.

P5744D,
Don't get me wrong, it is a fabulous system, it just has those quirks that get annoying. For example, I mentioned how slow it was to load. Well, sometimes, you'll get frustrated and hit the 'Back' button a few times, with no response. You'll hit it a few more times, then it'll finally respond. But it'll go 'Back' how ever many times you hit it. Hit it too many times and you end up all the way at the main screen. When using the 5-gas feature, you have to wait again for it to initialize (5min) and then to purge (another 5min). It gets very, very aggravating.
For user friendliness, I would recommend PalmScan. Perhaps the coolest thing about it is the AutoDetect, which automatically figures out exactly what car you're in, without having to enter the VIN. PalmScan also has a wide range of functional tests - more than Snap-On's brick, I think.
I was looking on eBay last night, and there were some MODIS systems selling for $3000 or so, and that's actually a pretty good deal. Comparatively, a Vantage scope will run you about $2000. The MODIS includes all the features of the Vantage, with an 8-channel live feed, plus the 5-gas and OBDII. The 5-gas comes in real handy for tuners. I guess.
I was talking to a few friends about the MODIS. One guy, who's been using it for maybe 6 months now, also complains about how slow it is, and how expensive it is to update. Not to mention it's been back to Snap-On for repairs 3 times!
Oh, and it's got so many god damn wires and cables and what not. The 5-gas accessory alone has maybe 3 extra components, and you need to connect 4 or 5 different cables to hook it up. Not exactly the most practical "hand tool."
