Default Soft Top issue

Hello,

Just picked up a 2005 S yesterday and have a small issue with the soft top. It goes down slow and when i try to raise it back up i have to assist it by pulling it up. It seems the motor does not have enough strength. Any suggestions?

One other question - does your gear shifter shake when you start up car...mine shakes a bit which i suspect is proper however thought i'd check.

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your new car. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I would guess there is something wrong with one or both of the motors or the top hardware. The top normally goes down quite quickly, probably in about 10 seconds. It's one of the fastest power tops. I've never had to help the top up either. It's pretty fast on the way up. I have an '01. I think the mechanicals of the top need to be checked out. Regarding the shifter, my car tends to run roughly at warm idle. If it's cold the engine runs at a higher RPM on start-up so it's smooth. However, if the car is warm it is rough at idle and I can feel it in the shifter.

Thanks for your quick reply ...i should mention that the car has only 29,000km on it so i find it odd that the motor or motors would be toast?

It's certainly rare for a top motor to go out...but it's possible that a wire chaffed or a rodent did some chewing during winter storage.

How difficult is it to access the motors wires etc?

Check the DIY...I think the posts showing how to replace the top will show where the motors are as well. They are along the sides of the car just behind the doors.
