Why not pull the codes? They'll tell you where to look for a problem. As it is you're just guessing.

You can check an SRS DTC by jumping PIN4 to PIN9 on the OBD2 DLC. The SRS light will blink out the DTC not the CEL, it can then be looked up in the Helms.
I'm not saying don't go to the dealer, just throwing in my 2 cents.
Good luck.

Here's a visual example, it's the same procedure for an 02 S2000.

EDIT: I know he's talking about an SRS DTC, this trick will work for ABS, and EPS DTC's also.

Whoops, I missed that you already said that.

I don't think that is right though. I'm pretty sure if your SRS light is on, the system is disabled.

I will give the jumper a try and see what comes up.

Thank You all for more info. This is going to help a lot. I just like to have most of the trouble shooting done before going to a dealer. Every dealer I know rapes ya on service items like this. 15 minutes max to pull a few codes and they want to charge .6 of time and then anything beyond that for diagnostic work.

Dealers have to eat and pay rent too. I don't resent the money they charge. Yeah it's not cheap but, they're a business like any other. You wouldn't ask your doctor for a free consult would you? I will say I've never gone to the dealer for service though. I don't trust them enough to let them touch my car. For every Billman, you have 50 high school dropouts working on cars.

EK9,

My Ford dealership here is the only dealer that charges time and materials or book. Whichever is better for me. They never charge a half hour for 10 minutes of work. That is just cheap on the dealers part. Dealerships never make enough money on their labor anyway. The profit is usually in the parts. The only problem is they don't really want to work on my car because it is a modified Honda and the local Honda dealership doesn't mind. I don't blame them.

That's not how dealers are making $$$$.

Look at it this way, You have spent from at least October 7th until November 27th trying to fix your SRS light. If this was a customer of yours would you charge 1272 hours of labor time? The dealer can charge there diagnostic fee because they can usually identify the problem and repair it in that time, and only charge you 1 hour.

If they do it in less time, they are good at what they do and have the required and very expensive tools needed to diagnose the problem quickly.

Slow,

I understand your logic. I really have only spent about 20 minutes on the connections. I have just had bad experience when it comes to some of the Honda dealers in our area. They would charge the .6 hour for the look-up then another hour to check the connections and then another hour just to tell me what is wrong. If I can have all the connections checked and the reset doesn't work then at least I saved some time and along the way I learned something. Time=greater knowledge=something gained not lost.

I appreciate all the input. I just like to learn how things work for future reference.

Thank You
Chris
