i often think of making "how to's" when i do an istall but it's usually something i've never done before! i'm usually just making my way through the job and figuring it out as i go along. anyway, the good news is that i got the new steering rack in. wasn't too bad but had to remove my CAI, sway bar/brackets, and undertray in order to make room for the swap. otherwise pretty straight forward. bad news is that my alignment is way off again and the EPS light is on... no power steering. going to get an alignment today then gonna try to reset the EPS. any tips on that one?

edit: alignment is now good but no luck reseting the EPS. tried connecting the 9pin to the 4pin on the OBD and turning the wheel back and forth in the correct sequence. all i get is a flashing EPS light. gah!

mmmkay, took it to a shop today realizing there is no way for me to reset the EPS on my own. turns out the EPS was throwing a few codes which they cleared except for one "14. open or short to body ground in the torque sensor circuit." so this issue still exists. gonna try checking all the connections and the ground. if anyone has ideas please throw them my way...!

Is it possible that this is why the used steering rack was for sale?

definitely crossed my mind... but the guy i bought it from seemed very legit.

anyway, good news. i removed all of the electrical connections to the steering rack and cleaned all the contacts. also disconnected the battery and whacked the ECM again. and, hey, power steering is back and no EPS light! the steering wheel is a couple degrees off to the right but the guy who did my aligmnet said he'd adjust it for me when the mess was done. back in action, son.

absolutely. couldn't have done it without advice from the people here. this fix ended up costing me $267 with parts, alignment, and getting the codes cleared. could easily have been four times that if i just took it somewhere to be fixed. plus, i learned how to replace a steering rack...!
