I have a 2001 stock exhaust and all of a sudden it started making a weird noise, almost more of a higher pitched drone sound. I noticed this recently, and can't seem to find any leaks. It doesn't appear to be a gasket etc, but I can't figure why it is starting to make this sound. It's only really noticable at low-mid revs and then it sounds normal, but I've owned this car for years knowing that this does not sound normal. It almost sounds like a 350z stock exahust...kinda droney w/ a slighter/higher pitch noise than the stock s2k exahust. Any suggestions or has anyone experienced this? I appreciate your help in advance.

Any new smells or rattles? My car's cat just went and I had all sorts of issues. Finally the CEL came on and returned a bad rear O2 sensor, thats what lead to the discovery of the bad cat.

Did anything hit your undercarriage and possibly your exhaust piping? A big dent in the metal could change the noise. Just a thought...

Have you checked the exhaust on a lift or on ramps? It should be easy to locate the sound that way. I also would guess it's the cat.

when i bought my car, my resonator was already taken off, sounds kind of nissan-ish. might sound like what you're referring to, just fyi
