Swapping ECU's
Hey everyone-
I am in the middle of talking with a fellow member about swapping my OEM block for his Laskey built block and Port Flow head. He is parting out his car, and wants to return NA.
I still have my OEM ECU, and was going to give it to him as part of the deal. We are both currently running AEM EMS.
I am wondering if we need to get his key re-programmed for the ignition immobilizer, or if we can just swap keys... I am not sure if his key will turn in my steering column (and vice versa).
Is there a way to re-program the chip in his key to my ECU? I am wondering if there is sequence that is done, similar to the key-fob programming (can be done over again), or if the key needs to be ordered blank, and then programmed (can only be programmed once)?
Thanks again!
John

No, the dealer will have to do it and will charge approx $100 for it.
I suppose you could swap keys...but that would mean ignition as well as your key would not fit.
There is no way to program it yourself as its a theft prevention feature and would be silly to allow people do to it
I bought another ECU, took it in, had them swap it and reprogram for $100...took like 30 min - pretty painless!

Can the reprogramming be done without the VIN of the car the ECU came from? I bought a 02-03 ecu from someone and the jerk never gave me the VIN despite me asking numerous times. I want to test out an 02-03 ecu in my car vs the 00-01 I have now.

man ... makes me wanna grab an ap1 ecu and do that for my ap2 lol
i just went through this process... some locksmiths now have the ability to re program the keys...
i was charged 70 dollars a locksmith came to my house and programmed my key and ecu together. they do not need any vin numbers because all they are doing is changing the frequency of the immobilizer inside the key to match the ecu. they are just pairing both with a new code.
