Default Throttle Release Sound

A few weeks ago I removed my Invidia N1 exhaust, so now I'm noticing all these new creaks, knocks and other sounds since I can actually hear. I went back to OEM so my exhaust is really quiet.

I am running a PRM intake, which has a pretty cool sound at WOT, but I also started noticing this weird sound upon releasing the throttle. It only seems to happen when going WOT and going over 5k rpm. I'll take the car up to 5k and then let out of the gas and decel. I noticed it just doing short pulls in 1st or 2nd gear.

It doesn't seem like it is the clutch buzz that I hear everyone talk about, because it is not a constant sound all the way through decel. It sounds more like a momentary grind/buzz that only last for a second or two.

Is this possibly just a sound that the intake is making when pulling in a lot of air and then being quickly closed? I searched for other related threads but nothing sounded specifically like my issue.

Clutch buzz, nothing more. If you haven't heard it before you do now

So I noticed that I hear this sound when in neutral. I don't like revving the car when in neutral, but I wanted to do it to see if I could hear the sound.

Sure enough, if I rev it to 5K and release the throttle I can hear the noise. Clutch buzz would only occur in gear, while driving (decel) correct?

Yup on decel. Could just a heatsheild of some sort rattling around; especially if it only last a second or two.

+1. It's something else, there's nothing in the throttle assembly that would make that type of noise unless the throttle plate was loose (screws). And that's very unlikely unless someone disassembled it and forgot to tighten them. I'd go with heat shields/airbox bolts/... check all the 10mm bolts under the hood; it could be anything.

I'll give everything another once over, but I hadn't found anything rattling around.

I feel like I'd hear it at other times if it was a rattle, but maybe not.

Thanks for the help

Get under the car and give the cat a good smack. see if it's coming from in that area.

I believe that's a common area the issue is with your described symptoms.

Edit: with a rubber mallet of course

I have a test pipe. I did check all the bolts though and everything seemed snug.
