Whenever I'm coming up to a stop sign rolling at about 5 mph, I'll put it into 1st gear while holding in the clutch still. I feel like the gears are getting crunched almost as if I'm not pushing clutch in all the way (but I am). Time for a new clutch?

That isn't a sign of a worn out clutch.

You might to going faster than you think. You'd probably be better off in 2nd if you're still moving. Also, check the free play in the clutch rod.

Agreed. Even hitting cones, it requires some effort to engage 1st while moving. Second is a much better choice if the car is moving at all.

 

i agree with the others. also if its just 5mph. i usually just throw it into neutral...

 

70k miles on the s2. I like to do this if I'm yielding, but I'll just roll in neutral from now on

 

If I'm rolling at 5mph, I always put it into 2nd. If first is a must at anything other than a standstil, then I double-clutch.
