What He Said ^

You WILL have to have it honed before putting in new rings. The rings wont seat if its not. You will also need to have the head decked. So YOU WILL have to pull the whole motor out.
Are you talking about having the block decked or the head milled? I dont see why you would have to do either one if its just the rings. Im not saying you shouldnt have the head checked for flatness, that should be done every time its off. But why pull the whole motor if your only taking the head off?

Common misconception about this motor, you DO NOT HAVE to hone the block before installing new rings. Also, the ONLY time the head and/or block needs to be decked is if either surface is not square....generally from my experience when it comes to these motors that are NA, I haven't had to have one head or block decked. Just be sure to check with a straightedge.

Jordan has done a couple motors without honing. With 400 miles on mine it has yet to burn any oil, which is the first time it has ever been like that since I owned the car, so I think rings are seating fine. If you remove the head properly and install it properly milling/deckkng shouldn't be needed, but it is always good to check like Jordan mentioned. The oem head gasket is thick enough to seal up minor variances.
