I'm having a new AN fitting welded on for a oil return, and I anticipate the heat will potentially damage the seal so I planned on replacing it after the fab shop was done with it.

Try using the old seal to tap in the new one. Works about 75% of the time for me.

Don’t over think it
find a similar sized socket and knock it in.
Just pay attention and hit it square.
