Timing Chain Tensioner
Since yesterday, I've had this noise coming from the front of my car that sounds like a knocking sound. After doing some research, I found out it could be a bad Timing Chain Tensioner. Another problem is that when I rev it, it gets louder and sometimes when I'm at a light, not in gear, just in neutral, the car stalls. Could it be rod knock? What are the symptoms of that ? Could the knocking noise and the stalls be result from a Timing Chain Tensioner? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
dude i just had i vid on youtube that i literally just erased... and it was of my car when i ran it out of oil and torched cyl4 piston rings and bearings... sound just like it ..;. hope not for your sake.. it was a bitch to rebiuld.
check out youtube tho and put it s2000 timing chain and you can get an idea of what that sounds like..

not to steal thread but i have this noise that im assuming is the TCT as well...it has a sort of clicky noise, not so much fluttery as some describe. could this also be the same? its a really quiet clicky noise. i can only hear it @ idle if im totally stoped, outside car...or when im driving near a wall on the freeway.
it sounds as though its related to engine rotation (changing speed doesnt change sound..)

OK, this topic will never give up.
So I have dug up an old thread in which many very intelligent people have posted on it including Billman himself.

I will summarize many of the issues for you.
1. Loud ticking at Idle but goes away after oil pressure builds (motor warms up)
2. Bad cases of TCT failure include the sound never going away, just getting drowned out by engine sound. (This was my issue the second time)
3. Many have installed New TCT's only to have the new one go bad (luckily i only did this once)
4. A large amount of people who have bad TCT's are using Mobil 1 Synthetc. (I was one) Although it has never been proven, This could be the main cause for our TCT failure.
I myself had this issue twice. A new TCT only fixed the problem for a couple months. I let it go for about 4 months until I heard the sound from idle to 3000 RPMs all day long. I decided that since most of the people are using Mobil 1, that I would try something else. I did and the problem slowly went away. (roughly 3 days until I heard no noise)
The issue also may have been that Ilet my oil level get too low (barely registering on dipstick) This can prevent your TCT from receiving sufficient oil and malfunctioning. We all know that our car burns oil so it is important for owners to check their oil level on a regular basis.
