Im in the process of replacing my chain tensioner which is a PITA with being comptech supercharged, (you have to remove the whole blower unit) and noticed that the new tensioner has a diffrent letters on it then the old unit. Did they update these recently to fix the problem? I know several of you that have replaced yours had it go bad in a couple thousand miles.
Heres the pictures:
The old unit is labeled NTN2 and the new unit is NTN1. There appers to be no outside difference in the casting.

Bummer... I was hopeful that they had made a change when I read this post. But, I just went outside to check mine. I have had one of each (NTN1 & NTN2) on my car and they have both failed. So, I guess they haven't fixed it yet. Plus, I expect they'll change the part number if they do make a change to the design.
So are you guys still having problems with failing TCT?
I haven't changed mine yet, but its probably because I can't identify the noise...I "assume" my engine sounds fine now...and the noise I hear is still my lost oil cap?

Maybe I'll have someone check it out for me.
Modifry went over 180,000 miles with his original tensioner, and he's not the kind of guy to overlook this kind of problem. There is no real pattern to these failures. Some cars will lose compression before the tensioner causes a problem, so you shouldn't worry about it until it happens.
You can always compare the way your engine sounds to the way a newer S2000 engine sounds; That should help call attention to any unusual noises.
Are you running the car without an oil cap? That will allow dirt to enter the crankcase directly - air will be drawn in when the PCV valve is open and the vacuum will pull dirt and dust in with the air through the unfiltered opening. You can get a billet cap at Pep Boys for a few bucks (but be warned that billet caps can get too hot to touch during spirited driving, so sometimes you have to remove them wearing gloves or using a rag). You could get a billet cap to use temporarily if the local Honda dealer doesn't have an OEM cap in stock.
so i have been having similar sounds as well with the ticking upon acceleration and etc....however just about a week ago i started to hear squeaking sounds almost like crickets chirping after teh engine would warm up at idle....could this be a continuation of the TCT issue?
