Yes, remove the oil pan and windage tray to change them. A high quality torque wrench is a must. Torque is ultra critical on this bolt.
So will a regular size Craftsman work for the bolts? (one of the 30" ones) Not sure if its a tight area or not.

No good.

It's got to be a smaller 3/8 drive. One that tops out at like 25 ft-lbs.

OK, thanks.

Since this thread is going along well... I'll just move onto the next question.

The motor is being replaced this weekend. I am guessing that it is easiest to pull the tranny/engine as one unit, and swap it out when its out of the car. Any tips for this? I know I'll need a load stabilizer for the cherry picker so we can angle the whole assembly out.

I thought about dropping the engine through the bottom, but lack of a lift for the car kinda limits that.

Also, its a junkyard motor through Honda, anything special we should do before firing her up for the first time?

Without a lift, you will never get the engine/trans assy out. That can only be done if the head is off the engine, even then it is not worth it. Slows2k can comment more on that as he's done it.

The only way to fly is to pull the trans first, then pull the motor straight out. Leave the harness with the engine, and the rad hoses.

The best advice I can give is get the service manual to pull the transmission.

Darn... not what I wanted to hear.

So we'll have to find a transmission jack or something to pull the tranny first. I have the helms manual, so I guess we'll just follow the directions.

You don't need a transmission jack. I've done it 4 times on my own with the car on jackstands. I just balanced the transmission on a regular jack and pulled it out. Put it back on the same way. Now, a transmission jack sure would make it easier though. I'm getting ready to pull my engine again, but this time its with the help of my new 4 post lift. No more scooting around under the car on a creeper for me.

I too have used a floor jack many times at my place. You leave the rear crossmember on the trans, it will sit right on the floor jack without falling off.

It's good to see some quality members on this site. Thanks for helping out my friends Billman.

From your comments I'm assuming that replacing the oil jets is a must when going FI on an AP1.
