topping off engine oil
hello guys
tried a search but had no luck
my brother maintains his s2000 and does all the fluid changes/maintenance, however he is away on business and left me with the car
i've been driving it around and checked the oil level via the dipstick
i did a cold check and noticed that only 2 x's are covered in oil and thus i should be topping it off. my brother left me a bottle of the motul oil he uses
i am not mechanically inclined and have no prior experience with this. don't wanna go to the mechanic for such a simple task. could someone direct me to a diy post or give a quick how to?!
i know the diff between the 5x's is about 1 quart (1 liter?) so i should be filling up about 500ml's or so. but do i just unscrew the cap at the top of the engine and pour the oil in then screw it back? do i need to use an erleymayer flask or is pouring from the bottle alright? i read something about making sure to not overfill as excess oil would go into the 'crankcase' and etc... how do i tell if i'm about to reach this point
greatly appreciate any feedback on this newbie issue!

And make sure you don't loose the rubber seal ring.
Its supposed to stay in a groove in the cap.
Sometimes the seal stays behind on the valve cover, gets lost and then the cap may unsrew itself, fall behind the engine and wedge itself between the trans and the chassis and your brother will be left with a very hard to remove rattle!
