Torquing Ye Olde Head
The studs are ARP studs which they say to go to 90 ft lbs. I loosened them up, and then went through the sequence at 30, 60, then 90. I am all set now.
If the head gasket goes for no apparent reason then I will post in here telling everyone that I screwed up, but I don't expect that to happen, hah hah
I found a local machine shop who is good, so I don't think I will be shipping my stuff out for sleeving anymore. I believe that I can turn around a motor in a matter of a week from removal, disassembly, rebuilding, machining, assembly and putting it back in.
How is your motor coming Fred?
Chris

Slow, as I only get to work on it during the weekend if I'm not flying. After reading that great website article in breaking in new engines, I'm wondering what is the best way to first start the engine - crank it for about a minute with no spark plugs installed to circulate the oil, or just start in up. Any thoughts? The oil cooler is full of oil as will be the filter, but all the plumming is not.
If I have a Chevy motor, should I follow the instructions for a Ford? Same with ARP. If you have ARP head studs, use ARP instructions. Not Helms, not Honda, not AEBS. ARP, and only ARP.
Wrong. ARP head studs come pre-stretched from the factory. You do not need the extra 90
My 00-03 helm manual says :
22ft lbs +90deg +90deg for a used head bolt.
22ft lbs +90deg +90deg +90deg for a new bolt.
22ft lbs +90deg +90deg for a used head bolt.
22ft lbs +90deg +90deg +90deg for a new bolt.
My 1st post on this thread inquired about a revised torque setting from ARP.
The Helm Service manual has never had ARP stud torque values, never will.
I assumed everyone would understand that a quote from the service manual, was for the stock application.

I figured as much, but because the posts immediately before yours were about ARP, I just wanted to clarify. You and I both know that there are those out there that have absolutely no common sense.
BTW, I meant they're the wrong specs for ARP, not for OE Honda. Sorry for any confusion.
