Default Tranny problem: maybe? maybe not?

I finally got my S after waiting patiently for 5 years. An 06 formula red with 37k. I have noticed a very slight clunk from the rear diff and tranny when going to first that I didn't notice during the test drive. However it ONLY does it when you go from neutral with clutch out, then clutch in, then put into 1st. With the clutch in going from any gear to 1st its all good. I'm new to S's and I don't know if this is normal operation or a precursor to something bad. I don't want to regret this as I have waited for my S for many years. Any help guys?

agreed. I've had 5+ S2000 and all of them have done that.

It's 100% normal in all MT cars, it's just noticeable in the S2000 because of the proximity of the transmission to the occupants and the direct linkage.

All it is is the input shaft, which was spinning due to being connected to the idling engine, coming to an abrupt halt when put into gear.

If you wait just a moment in between pushing in the clutch and putting the transmission in 1st, you won't feel it.

I guess I never noticed it before because all my previous cars were FWD. I'm new to this forum. You guys reply FAST! Thanks.

So guys??
I've been listening to this "clunk" now for a bit and decided to do a little research.....I've found a few things on youtube of folks who have worked on a couple of these so called "clunk sounds"....

In my case, I find when the car is cold, and when I put it into reverse I get this sort of clunk...that part I figure to be normal.
However, when I am backing up (which puts the drive train/suspension under load....then push in the clutch (which unloads the drive train) I get a pronounced clunky sound.

I don't get any ticking, or squeaking or scratchy sounds or any sort....just the clunk.
I'm going to check it this evening when it's HOT (ie been driving for several miles) and see if it does the same thing when unloading from reverse.
As a side.....I found 2 youtube videos that sort of relate to this sound and a potential remedy?? figured I would share them here. If this isn't the right forum to post this feel free to let me know or direct me to the appropriate forum page....thanks
this one talks about re-torqueing the rear axle nuts ( I question the validity of this but thought I'd share it anyway)
this one talks about regreasing/packing the propeller shaft (draft shaft to you old v8 motor heads like me)....again, not sure if this relates at all to the clunking....share your thoughts and experience if you would...
thanks/Gary

Re-torqueing the axle nuts eliminated a noise like you described on my car .
