Transmission Hard to Shift - Especially at higher RPMs
Thanks to all first all. Great forum ! Special thanks to Billman250 for all the great support. If only you were in Michigan
This issue happened suddenly one morning. I was driving to work and pulled away from a stop signal. 1st gear - Rev to 7000 RPM - Tried to engage to 2nd and it wont go in - Tried putting into other gears - None of them work - then I pulled over to the side. I didn't hear anything weird, but I smelt something burning (more like a clutch). The only way I am able to drive my car now is before up-shifting - I let the engine RPM drop all the way to idle and push it into gear. Sometime it grinds. I am not able to come to a conclusion to what is the issue. Few observations that I did:
1. Checked the clutch fluid. Its dark but upto the level. No leaks or anything. Just from the clutch pedal release it seems to engage right at the mid travel of the clutch.
2. Took it to a shop - the guy there changed the shift lever bushing - it helped a little bit - but still very hard to shift. Its not normal. I can feel the difference for sure.
3. Now the only issue that is repeatable is 1st gear - Rev hard 7k rpm - then to second it wont go in at all - then when you exert a little more force then it goes in. It definitely doesn't feel right.
Anyone know what this could be ? I did some research on this forum for similar issues, and for three people it ended up being a broken clutch disc. Kindly advise.
I am going to change my trans fluid sometime this weekend to see if that makes any difference.
I have a competition clutch stage 2, and it buzzes like crazy. I am planning to change the clutch anyways. Just wanted to get your guys opinion before I spend money on that.
Couple of track days + usual spirited driving.
