Transmission Synchros
I can only imagine hot roading teenagers are rapping trannies and suggesting it's Honda's fault.
105K on my tranny, 170k on a friends. No issues. Furthermore he tracks a ton, and I less than he.
Proper shifting and you don't use the syncros. I swear, the internet is making people stupid.

Can you even buy synchros apart from the gears?
Honda went from brass in AP1 to carbon in AP2, and many AP2 owners have a notchiness that is characteristic of the syncros I believe. Not sure if thats a behavior solved with different material/design though. The short-shift character of the S2000 is naturally a bit hard on synchros.

How are the clutch hydraulics?
If there is one thing (*) that is truely known to cause bad shifting it is this system running old crappy fluid and/or a bad bleed.
Also, are the mechanics of the clutch system ok, greased and polished where it should be?
Are you using your original OEM disk / PP, if not: what are you using and who installed it?
Are you pretty sure this installer cleaned and greased all the necessary parts with the right grease to insure a smooth shift?
How often do you change transmission oil?
And what oil do you use?

^ absolutely essential to long s2k syncro life and proper operation.
-Right off the bat, the clutch adjustment and the amount of grease on the spline from the factory sucks.
This in turn make the syncro (and even worse, the teeth on the gear drive collar and the drive points on the gear) do all the work against a dragging disc. This beats up the teeth and causes notchiness, and popping out of gear. No syncro is made to do that. An s2k syncros are designed to speed-up or slow-down the mainshaft and disc that is FREE from the flywheel and pressure plate. Not one that is dragging due to the factory shortcomings. A good driver who know how to heel-toe will neither speed-up or slow-down the disc...they will equalize and there will be ZERO (immeasurable) wear on the syncros.
-last but not least is DRIVER INPUTS. I can tell you first hand there are more than half of the s2k drivers that are not operating the car properly. If you drive the car like a dragster, like 1/4 mile, dont expect ANYTHING to last. period.
If you track it every day, it will last plenty. tool for the job.
I DO SEE your point about these parts becoming hard to get, and so while we are at it make something stronger. so with that I would support it.
It is my strong opinion that the s2k syncros can last over 1,000,000 miles in a properly maintained car and skilled OPERATOR...not driver.
