Default Trunk release not working, missing cable?

Ever since I bought my car used, the trunk release never worked with aftermarket alarm system which I have since removed. The trunk will not open with the button inside the console box either. The only way to get it open is with my key. I just ordered OEM security system, and I wanted to check if I can get that trunk working again before I have someone install the security system.

With my previous expereience, there is always a cable connected to the manual release button, and I don't see that cable on my trunk lock. I see the brackets where the cable should be at, but not the cable. Could someone take a picture of their trunk lock for me? I just wanted to verify that I'm missing the cable. Also I tried to find where the cable connects to, took out the spare tire and still couldn't see if the button in the console box has any connecting back there. Any ideas?

There is no cable. There is a solenoid built into the trunk latch. Bad solenoid or wiring in between.

Mine works using the button inside the 'glove box', when using the key, but not when I use the remote. I can hear a 'click' at the alarm control box, but it doesn't activate the trunk latch solenoid. Any suggestions?
