Hi everyone,

Just bought a pre-owned '01 S2000 at 20K miles. I would like to change all the fluids on the car, however, the previous owner lost the owner's manual and I would like some assistance here.

What brand & what grade of fluids you guys mostly used or recommended on the S2K for the following categories?

ENGINE OIL
TRANSMISSION OIL
DIFFERENTIAL OIL
RADIATOR
BRAKE FLUID
CLUTCH CYLINDER FLUID
POWER STEERING

Also, I am going to change the brake pads to EBC Greenstuff, & Goodridge Brake Lines. Are they any good?

I have 4 new Pirelli P-ZERO NERO on order from Tire Rack and they are coming tomorrow!!!

Thanks all

Hope this helps:
Engine oil - with that kind of mileage you can now go to a full synthetic 10W30.

Tranny fluid - until you get to know this car a bit better, stick with Honda MTF.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=83577

For the diff - Honda doesn't actually make a dedicated fluid for this car. If you go to Honda, they will give you the same fluid they put in CRV diffs. Many folks here have gone to Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil 75W90. The following thread is not specific to a rear diff oil change but the whole gear swap but you'll get the general idea as to how to do the fluid change from it.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=85687

Engine coolant - You can use the recommended stuff which is the green coolant, either the "pre-mixed" or the concentrated which you dilute yourself. I've elected to go with the orange, "long-life" fluid for ease of future maintenance. If you go to the orange stuff, you must flush out the old stuff really well or you'll run into problems.

Have fun.
And don't forget to silicone spray all your rubber boots under the car. There's 2 in the front on each steering rod. And 4 on the back half shafts, inner and outer CV boots.
Sorry, haven't done the brake fluid yet so can't show you a DIY thread on that one yet, but you should consider getting "speedbleeders" to make the job a bit easier.
Haven't done the clutch fluid either but I've heard it can be tricky.

ps. There is NO power steering fluid. It's an electric power steering.

As always xviper's advice is spot on. However, to answer your brake question take a look at this thread. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=93221 and this one https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=88737

I haven't seen the Pirelli P-ZERO NERO as a tire used by any S2000 owners on this board. If your car is close to stock you should consider the tires that come on the car from the factory. These are special Bridgestone S02's that were designed specifically for the S2000. At the very least you should make sure the tire sizes your getting will maintain the correct front to rear stagger. In particular you need to make sure the rear tires are the correct size. See this thread https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=48572

The coolant doesn't need to be replaced yet, does it? I thought the Honda fluid was a long lasting type...

I haven't seen anything about spraying silicone on the rubber...? Does silicone help prevent them from cracking?

Of all the fluids, I think the most significant (as far as feel goes) is definitely the transmission fluid. If you don't have time to research it, you probably should just go with Honda MTF, but I think it would be best to do some reading. I have used GM Synchromesh with good luck (for a few thousand miles), but am currently using Redline MT-90. It is REALLY thick (STIFF shifting) when it's cold (<50 degrees F), but once it warms up (after a couple miles), it's awesome. If I were you (living in CA), I would go with Redline MT-90, or a 50/50 mix of Redline MT-90 and Redline MTL.

And don't forget to pick up some technical data. The owners manual is pretty weak. If you are a mechanic pick up the "2001 Service Manual" and build your library from there.

Thanks for all the detail replies!!

I ordered the NERO in 205/55ZR16 in front & 225/50ZR16 in the back. I know Potenza is an awesome tire, don't get me wrong, but I personally like Pirelli P-ZERO series's handling charateristics.

I will post some updates when I got my S2K restore to its original performance. I am planning to take the S2K to Streets of Willow this Sunday..... can't wait until sunday!!!

I think your front tire size choice is fine, but instead of 225/50/ZR16 you should probably look into getting 245/45/ZR16 to get the correct contact patch, for your rear tires. Contact Jim at TireRack to make sure, but I think you'll be much happier with the 245/45/ZR16 rear tire size. Jim's number is 1-800-428-8355 x364.
