Default Turbo Engine POP

On two different occasions, when I turn the ignition to the "ON" position, there's a loud pop that comes from the engine bay. Then when I try and crank the engine, it cranks, but takes about 5 seconds to turn over. Today was one of the times it happened, and as I was driving away, the car backfired really loud when I was decelerating in 1st gear (never shifted). I'm running a modified version of Wes's map that's been richened up, and the timing backed off more than before for safety's sake and am running the boost at 4.8psi (spring on wastegate) but I don't take the car more than half throttle because my turbo is smoking (I'm awaiting warranty work for it). The car does see some boost at partial throttle otherwise I can't negotiate traffic. Also, sometimes the rev's drop to about 500-600 RPM on my E-01 display. Are these things normal? Thanks for any help/advice.

Jason, I think it's running way too rich. I had the same problem with that map. My car sputterd a lot and fouled the plugs. Also, pull fuse # 25 and leave it out. You will get more consistent power. You can't tune with the fuse in because the ECU is always changing the closed loop settings and changing the timing.

Does anyone know what the popping noise may be? Marcucci did a compression test on my prelude about 2 years ago, and it made this same type of noise when he tried to crank the engine once, and the car attempted to start, even though the spark plugs weren't in the car. He had forgotten to pull one plug out of the coil (?) and it tried to fire. I know that sounds weird, but someone has to know what I'm talking about. It happens on my car right when the ignition is switched on.

Hey Jason I get a large back fire also, only at start up when the air pump is working, as soon as its turned off the back fire goes away, try to see if the car backfires after about driving for about 5 mins. My engine also wants to stall when clutching or if I blip the gas slightly, I don't know that the problem is.

Sounds like a backfire. You should not ge that, though, with the ignition just "on".

KYS2000, are you using an AEM EMS, E-Manage, or something else?

Talking to Wesmaster, he said that it was probably the unburned fuel left in the cylinder being ignited. I just didn't know the engine had a spark with just the ignition on.

I figured my problem with stalling now too, had 12.5 A/F at idle so we subtracted with afc and turned fuel pressure back a bit.
