Just got off the phone with John@RC again. Here is the latest news:

1) They aren't ready yet and don't have a firm date. They are still waiting for a fellow S2000 owner to drop off his head and fuel rail for R&D. Whoever you are HURRY UP!

2) Anything over 440cc will be a low resistance injector and need an resistor in the path in order to be controlled by the stock ecu, the FTC1 or the AEM EMS.

3) A piggy back solution with the stock ECU WILL NOT be able to work with injectors higher than 440cc as there will be too much fuel at idle/low and the stock computer limits the amount of fuel you can pull out with a VAFC, or GReddy e-manage, or FTC1 etc Thus to go to the 550cc or 650cc injector for example an AEM EMS, unichip or another stand alone unit is needed.

4) Once they have the oem drop in replacement created their entire line of low resistance injectors will be available. The list and pricing can be found here:
http://www.rceng.com/prices.htm

What does this mean for me? It means that I can't use the FTC1 with the Vortech setup like I thought. Looks like I will wait for more progress to be made with the AEM EMS and wait for the injectors to be made, and put this into the car and tune it in the spring.

Jenner,

Why does this mean you can't use the FTC1? OK, so you have to wait for the injectors to be made, but low resistance isn't a problem...like you said, just add a resistor in series. Am I missing something?

When I had 440cc injectors, I max out -40 on the V-afc at idle to make a adequate a/f. I was still rich at that point. I would not recommend pass 40 percent up or down on the V-afc as it may overload the stock ecu. So, 440cc is the max injector you pretty much can use in conjunction with V-afc. I did however heard 550cc eclipse injectors can be controlled the same way with out too much sacrafice. I would still stay with 440cc since I was generating above 350 hp with the b series motor last year until I changed to 720cc with EMS.

Im currently running the HKS FCON with the VAFC to fine tune.

And I used a resistor pack from the 96 prelude in order to use 550cc injectors (RC).

Dont seem to have any problems. my narrow throttle fuel trim has been leaned by 15 % on the VAFC, plus whatever has been leaned out by the FCON....so there is a possibility.

I don't mean to sound silly or anything, but the only complication with using regular RC Engineering injectors is the height of them (rather how "tall" they are) because the studs that come stock aren't long enough. Mike (my engine builder) said that he was able to go to the local hardware store and found a piece that extended the stud up a little bit. I will snap pictures and post them online soon. I am running 720's with no modifications.

Also when I spoke with RC Engineering (they are a small shop) about two weeks ago they didn't mention anything about an S2000 project. They said they would be willing to machine their injectors to shorten them up, however, but you'd have to place an order for them to do something like that.

Going with a stand alone system is the optimal choice, however I don't believe that going with 440cc injectors would not be possible with a piggy back. The amount of fuel delivered is approx 25% more -- can't you pull more than that with a piggy back???

After my experience with the AEM system, I am EXTREMELY happy. I would recommend it to anyone with a little patience, a wideband, and a buddy to drive.

Chris
