Found it! Honda began installing the new design bolts after engine F20C 1102 5386.
I know this thread is old, but can anyone confirm which engine number they started with the new banjo bolts? I have changed the engine from my original MY00 and want to know if the new engine has the new banjo bolts or not.

I know they dont have an exact number, but I just know that the earlier 02's have the older style bolts. Here is a quote from a thread I found in the search:

"It was widely reportedly Honda began installing the new design bolts after engine F20C 1102 5386; however, a Florida owner inspected his engine F20C 1102 5376 only to learn he had the updated bolts installed already. So when they started is unclear."

Hope that helps!

I don't think anyone really knows the exact engine number where the bolts were switched, since Honda of America hasn't said boo about the entire subject it leaves many owners frustrated. My engine is pretty close to the previously reported engine number in 2002, but I've decided to not bother checking my bolts as it appears to be a pia.

if i remember correctly, all but one bolt is not too bad. so, yes, it will take some time to take off the brace, and the oil pan, and then to put it all back together. but if you JUST want to check, removing one of the easier bolts is not too bad... but i do remember getting all of them took me and my friend forever. lots of cursing, but a great ab workout. but of course, me and my friend probably suck... pro can probably do it in 1/4th the time.

have a '02 btw... and yeah, had the bad bolts. was a pain yes, but worth the peace of mind. did it with my spoon baffled oil pan install.
thanks for the info, can you post your engine number if you get a chance ?

The engine number I have now starts with 1003... So I guess I'll check and probably change them on next oil change then.
