Is using the PLM filter really THAT bad?
I'm in a small bit of a jam, and just wanted to hear some opinions.
My car is really due for an oil change (6,000 km on the car, has not had an oil change yet). Locally, PCX filters can be ordered, but at a staggering $38 CAD per filter. So I went ahead and bought a normal PLM filter.
If I were to change my oil, and use this filter, is it really the end of the world? I'm going to order some PCX filters from the gofast lab soon, but I really think I should just get my oil changed now. I just want to know that I'm not going to unleash the evil deamons of the world, or something...
Thanks for any help.

Yes, life as we know it will end. Ice will cover Manhattan, and the middle-world creatures of HP Lovecraft's horror visions will again rule the daywalkers.
Common sense telling you that you will be OK?
Of course the answer is yes - how many 2000's pre-PCX are doing just fine?
Don't sweat the small stuff!

Go for Baldwin Oil filters, they are incredible and popular with the Ferrari crowd. Very well made. I bought a half dozen of them for my S2000 and they were only like 5-6 dollars each.
Don't sweat using the PLM's until you can get the filters you want.

The PLM filters have less filtration media surface area and therefore lower maximum flow rate before the bypass valve opens up. A typical oil filter will have enough backpressure for the bypass valve to open up on cold startups. It stands to reason that the increased surface area in the PCX filter will result in the filter's bypass valve opening up less often, and will allow less unfiltered oil to pass through when it does open up.
It is possible (but I don't know for sure) that the PLM filter doesn't have ample flow through the filter media when approaching redline (with a warm engine & mid-to-high viscosity oil), thus the bypass valve opens up. That's not tragic since the filter doesn't trap a huge amount of pariculates every minute, but if Honda knew that the specified stock filter for this car was going into bypass mode with the engine warm while driving the vehicle as intended, they could have a big problem on their hands later. Over time, this would result in excessive premature engine wear.
This would be a good reason for Honda to come out with a filter specifically designed for the S2000. Personally, I think the PLM filter is fine as long as you're not spending a lot of time in the VTEC range. Above that, I'd want to make sure I had a filter with adequate flow capacity.
