This really sucks, I've been htinking about an 06 but wanted to trade seats with someone with an older car. On the new seats!
so does this mean if you get, let's say a BRIDE seat, the air bags won't function at all?

7. ECM logic/SSD mode. The ECM/PCM performs several functions after the key is turned off and removed. You must wait at least 15minutes after the key is turned off before unplugging the PCM. If you unplug the PCM while it's performing the SSD (self shut down) tests you can permanently damage the PCM
can somebody explain what this means? I dont' understand the significance.

The airbags won't function properly without the OEM seat rails.

As far as the PCM's SSD mode goes, don't unplug the car's computer untill at least 15 minutes has passed since you turned the ignition off.

Perhaps, but the old ported intake might have had a bit to do with it. The S2000 always was tweaked to the max - not sure if this new change was part of what was lost when Tpchigi fabrication moved to Suzuka or wherever. ??
Glad to see that you're still posting here.

Haven't seen your name in awhile.

Indeed. It seems that it is Honda's desire to make the S a more (gag!) commuter-freindly car and thereby broaden its appeal.
from a daily driver's point of view i wouldn't mind some of the new gadgets they put on the new car. not everyone that drives these cars autocrosses them on the weekends and/or cares about having the minimalist mindset of less = more. nearly everyone on even the s2ki forums complains about the terrible stereo...i'm glad they are getting the hint!

Personally, I'm glad the manufacturers continue to upgrade the cars. If everyone in the early days of the auto industry had the same attitude about change as some of these "they're dumbing it down " folks, we'd still be driving Model T's.

As for the radio, I'll wait until I actually get to hear one. I sat in a '05 model with the dealer installed headrest speakers. They were total POS's. I could hardly tell they were there and the car was parked on the dealers lot. I can't imagine that they'd do anything for the sound system while the car was moving down the road. It remains to be seen how the roll bar mounted speakers work.

Now "that's" scary!!

Makes me wonder how many people are going to get burned because they didn't know this little tid bit of information?

I just recently replaced the battery on my Odyssey. I'm certain the car wasn't down for 15 minutes before I was unhooking the battery and replacing it with the one I'd just bought from Autozone.

If this had been my five year old '06 S2000, would I have just toasted the PCM?? I've got to wonder what in the world it's doing that it takes it 15 minutes to get it done?

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

One of the other forums mentioned that the clutch delay valve has been removed. I doubt that, but would like to know for sure. Any idea?

no offense, but are you SURE that's what happens? Cause isn't it MORE dangerous to have the airbags NOT FUNCTION if you change the seats?

Replacing the battery shouldn't effect it, there hasn't been any precaution listed for battery replacement.

The 06 S2k is not 1st Honda that has a PCM SSD mode. Unplugging the PCM while it's running a SSD test is the big no-no.
