they both went out at the same time? Both driveshafts?

I would think they went out one at a time. Wonder how long you were running around with 1 wheel drive.

Well good thing it was not your clutch but if it was I was gonna ease your cost somewhat cause I have a extra stock clutch I would of just given you. Or if anybody needs it just let me know. It's yours. I don't want anything for it, it's just been sitting in my storage taking up space.

wow that is by far the craziest ending I've ever heard! seriously though whoever put your spacers in needs to be fired after you beat him in the head with a TORQUE WRENCH. Next time he might use one and he wont screw up the next guys car like he did yours.

Yea, i got it back and it seems there were some bolts missing where the diff was so the driveshaft was not connecting so the wheels weren't spinning according to the dealers

So they didnt' charge me for taking out the tranny and checking the clutch

but they did charge me $270 for having my car their for like a week and for the replacement bolts
EXCUSE ME

They are charging YOU for their incompentence??????

They should drop to their knees, apologizing profoundly and be very VERY ashamed of themselves!

You explained the problem and any even slightly competent mechanic would KNOW it's not the clutch.

I surely hope you won't let them get away with this one. If this would happen to me I would be absolutely livid and go as high as possible righting this wrong!

I'm even getting worked up just thinking about it!

Good luck!

well my mechanic is a very reputable mechanic on this board and he has done alot to help out the people in my area. He has worked on many of the members cars so i guess everybody has a bad day and i guess i just happened to ask for his help on his bad day so i'm not tripping. After hearing that i have to pay 1990 + tax down to just 270, even though it was expensive for putting 6 bolts in, it was a relief

Wasn't the dealership fault that the OP decided to put on a non OEM part and forgot to tighten down the bolts.

$270 does sound like a lot but then again the dealership needs to be compensated to fix a problem that wasn't covered under warranty.

The output shaft of the trans is AFTER the clutch. The speedo is based on the output shaft. Which means that the output shaft is spinning, but the car is not going anywhere.

However, the fact that you can leave it in 1st with the clutch out and no gas points to a TOTALLY toasted clutch. If you noticed a noise, there may have been a faulty friction surface or disk on the clutch that fell apart. But that's a weird and unlikely scenario. Maybe the hub seperated from the disk of the clutch? Iduno, they'd have to open it up. It's insane that they'd automatically say that the clutch is now worn and there is nothing they are willing to do.

If it's a broken clutch with a faulty part, there has to be something they should do. Also, if there was a faulty adjustment in the clutch slave or master cylinder, the clutch could have always been only partially engaged.

Did you notice a slipping clutch before? It's hard to believe it went from fine to broken in one step. If it did that, it means it didn't wear out...it broke.

Remind the dealership that the car only has 4k, there's not really a good way they can provide evidence of abuse, and that the clutch is part of the drivetrain.

Take your parents with you or something. They usually dont take 19 year olds seriously at dealerships. It seems like they're pushing you around.

Go to different dealers, write letters to corporate...do what you gotta do.

$1900 is too much for a clutch job. You can get it done elsewhere for much cheaper even with OEM parts.

Keep fighting this.

Edit: nevermind. I just read the rest of the thread.

WTF are they charging you for?!! You have a warranty, they pushed you around, and now they want to CHARGE you?!!!

That's insane. It almost makes me angry. Dont pay them a cent. If it comes down to it, get a lawyer and sue the sh#t out of them.
