Default Very Technical Problem...EPS/CRUISE/VSS

Ok guys, I have a problem, and for the life of me I can't think of what's going on.

A little background...

One day, the EPS light came on. This means I no longer have power steering. I also noticed cruise control no longer worked. Finally, the other day, I noticed that my Alpine navigation was reading 0mph when I was traveling 75mph.

Now....

1)The Alpine has two speed "inputs" one from the GPS signals (has nothing to do with the car,) and the other is from the VSS wire FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER DASH. This is the signal that is not working, and as a result, reads 0 on the display.

*Note, the Alpine navi was installed well over 2 years ago, when everything worked great.*

*Note #2, this problem occured AFTER the Greddy turbo was added, but again, everything worked for a few months before this problem occurred.

2)The EPS light IS ON, and EPS does NOT work.

3)Cruise control does NOT engage.

4)All dash functions including those that deal with speed/mileage WORK (speedometer odometer.)

As far as I understand, there are 3 sources in the s2000 that deal with speed.

1) Speed sensor wire that comes out of the tranny itself.
2) Speed sensor wire located in the BLUE harness of the ECU (which supplies the dash information)
3)Speed Sensor wire that is in the convertible top module under the PASSENGER dash.

Now, all three problems are speed sensitive and speed related. I am certain that ONE thing is triggering this.

Any ideas as to how to tackle this?

i would start by getting the code or codes from your eps light.

Also, check (& clean) all grounds.

How was the Navi speed wire installed? Was it just T-tapped into the VSS wire?

It might be possible the tap could have cut the wire with the vibrations, etc from driving the car. If the tap is before the wire goes to the ECU (where I assume the cruise control and EPS gets their speed information from), that could be the cause of your problem.

Since the speedo works, you'd probably have to look at the VSS wiring diagram and see where the common denominator is with the navi, EPS, and cruise control that still leaves the speedometer with a speed signal.

Any wires tampered with during the greddy turbo install? Turbo timer maybe? Heat from the turbo near any wires?

How good are all your connections, i would get in there and test all the connections and double check all connections that were tampered with, splices, solder joints that you did all those years ago..... i had to do that on my car eight years after last hacking into wiring harnesses.... turned out an unrelated sensor had died.

Good luck!

The only sensor/wire that was touched is the VSS wire under the passenger dash for the Alpine navi. I guess I will check that one out first and go from there. However, isn't this the wire that people cut to have the drop top down mod while moving? If so, it shouldn't affect anything else no?
