Default Vortech electronics with no SC?

Can any of you Vortech guru's help?

I am fitting a new short block to my car after a cylinder 4 failure. My plan is to run the new engine in before I refit the Vortech SC.

My question is do I have to remove the other Vortech parts, fuel pump, FPR and black boxes before I can run without the SC?

My guess is this is not necessary but I would like to know for sure, I can't afford another engine blow-up!

Thanks
Kevin

why don't you want to run the engine with some low rpm and boost Kevin?

If you want to remove the vortech/disconnect the belt, it's best that you put the electronics and fuel accessories back to stock.

Just remove the belt and you'll be fine.

The Vortech electronics consist of a boost dependant timing control and a device to limit the MAP signal when it senses positive pressure. Without boost the electronics will do nothing.

The FPR is a mechanical device that is boost dependant. Without boost it won't ramp fuel pressure.

The pump will circulate more fuel, but the OEM regulator and FMU will just be returning it to the tank.

It's dead easy to remove these equipments. Prob take less than 1/2 hour. Why bother using them during the most critical state if you NA?

Unless you have abundance of money and want to waste money on the dyno (to double check the AF and make sure these things still work), I would rather let the stock ECU map things properly duing the run in period.

I still recommend that you run some low boost during the break in period though

The fuel pump is a PIA to remove, and in my case the electronics are hard wired into the cars loom, so it's also a bit of a problem.

I thought, like AUS2000, that the re-mapping only occured under boost conditions, and that with no boost there was no interference from the black boxes.

Is this not the case?

The reason I don't want to run the engine in with boost is, that if I get any problems at that sensitive stage HONDA will still honor the warranty. My plan is to re-introduce the SC once I'm happy with the NA setup.

In theory it should be ok. However why use a piggy back junk when you don't need to. If it's faulty you will only find out too late.

-There are only a few wires on the large black box that you will need ot disconnect.
-Disconnect the hose from the stock fpr
-Disconnect the fuel return line from the vortech fmu and hook that to the stock fpr via an adaptor for the smaller hose (? from 1/8" to 1/16")

You can leave the small black box and the fuel pump alone.
I've seen your work, this shouldn't take you longer than 30 mins Kev
